Alliums are the bridge between tulips and the first wave of perennials (irises, peonies, foxgloves, etc.), but they don’t all flower at the same time. To fill the gap, you’ll want to consider early, midseason, and late alliums. In the early department, we suggest Purple Sensation, long a favorite for immediate post-tulip bloom, and a rising star named Jackpot. Jackpot is similar to Purple Sensation but has slightly larger flower heads (just over 4 inches across) and a color that has more red in it. Both make a great start to the allium season.
